The Australian foodie revolution has transformed the gastronomic landscape down under over the past decade or so. Upon realising that we have some of the best raw ingredients in the world, produce some of the finest wines and nurture some of the top culinary talent on earth, Australians have never been more keen to show off their food culture and unique approach to the kitchen. If you want to stay on top of all the latest food trends and be on the cutting edge of all things edible, there’s nowhere better to head than to some of the country’s top food festivals, where people come together to celebrate the very best in fine food and wine. From the most exclusive luxury dishes to brilliantly pimped-up versions of street food classics, there’s really something for everybody on the festival circuit. On top of this, they’re great places to head to, not just for the chilled out vibes and great atmosphere, but also in order to catch wind of the next big thing hitting the top restaurants in the coming years.

Here’s a brief rundown of three luxury foodie festivals not to miss.

Margaret River Gourmet Escape

There are few parts of Australia quite so synonymous with quality food and wine as Margaret River, home to some of the country’s most iconic wineries. Every November, the region becomes home to one of the finest luxury food adventures out there, featuring top chefs from around the world. You’ll drink amazing wine, try some seriously good artisan foods, and relax at a beach barbeque to beat all others, on the flawless sands of Castle Bay.

The Taste of Tasmania

Recent years have seen an incredible buzz around Tasmania’s food and wine scene, and this small island has finally found it’s voice as a gastronomic centre which is fast becoming the envy of the world. The Taste of Tasmania food festival is a showcase of the high end of the island’s capabilities, and features traditional fare (slow cooked wallaby, anyone?), amazing wines, world-beating sushi and some great music and performances to aid the digestion!

High Country Harvest

We love the latest food trend of getting back to basics, and luxuriating in the rustic tastes and textures of handmade bread, cheese and cured meats. If this is your thing, and you want to learn some kitchen skills from real masters of their crafts, then head to High Country Harvest, a food festival which takes place in Victoria each May. Expect guided tastings of local wines and foraged foods, themed degustations and even beekeeping classes – perfect for something a little different.
