Being all set for its presentation in Frankfurt at IAA, Porsche is ready to introduce the first ever sports car that’s fully electrically powered, the Mission E.
This concept car gloriously blends the emotional design of a traditional Porsche, remarkable performance, and forward-thinking practicality of the 800 Volt drive system. Some of the key specs you should familiarize yourself with are that the Mission E Sports Car includes four single-seats and four doors, boasts a massive 600 horsepower and has a surprising driving range of 500km on a single charge.
Under the Hood
Mission E is an all-wheel drive as well as an all-wheel steering; it can accelerate to 100km/hr from a standstill under 3.5 seconds. This superior performance of E is powered by two PMSM or permanent magnet synchronous motors, the very same that was featured by Le Mans Victor this year, the 919 hybrid. Unlike other elective drive systems currently available in the market, these motors can reach their full power despite multiple accelerations in short intervals.
Battery Power and Weightlessness
The battery that powers this harmless looking monster machine is mounted on the vehicle’s underbody and runs the entire length between the front and rear axles, which results in good balance and equal distribution of weight. This is also a strong contributor in helping the car maintain its centre of gravity in the lower threshold. As expected of any Porsche Sports Car, Mission E also sports a lightweight body due to the mix of carbon fibre reinforced polymer, aluminium, and steel.
Innovations Innovated
Capable of clocking up a driving range of 500km on a single charge, the Mission E can begin charging at 0% and reach 80% of electrical energy in just about 15 minutes. The vehicle instruments are smartly operated using gesture control, eye-tracking, and even through holograms. All of these features automatically adjust displays to match the position of the driver.
Other innovations that are noteworthy include reduced sculpting on Mission E’s front end, the display of ‘five round instrument’ using OLED technology, headlights which are Matrix LEDs, and Porsche Car Connect with which the owner can remotely adjust vehicular functions using their tablet.
