Penfolds Introduces Limited Edition Tawny Wine

The world renowned Australian winemaker had declared back in August that they would be unveiling the commemorative edition of 50 year old Rare Tawny wine to mark Singapore’s golden jubilee. The wine is limited edition and hence only 50 units of the Rare Tawny were unveiled.

The Rare Tawny wine has been slowly aging in a small wood box for over 50 years and has now finally come out to shine. Each bottle of the wine is individually numbered, encased in a limited edition leather carrier box and is accompanied with two wine glasses. Australian glass artist Nick Mount helped in crafting and designing the 50 year old Rare Tawny bottle.

All the bottles are equivalent of a snowflake. Every bottle is hand assembled and hand blown with ever-so-slight variations that makes all the bottles a little different from the other one.

When you pour the Rare Tawny in a wine glass, you get a beautiful deep olive brown colour with a slight yellow-green tint. The scent is intense and vibrant with traces of burnt toffee, dark chocolate and vanilla. When you taste it you can feel the silky and luscious palate with concentrated flavours of chocolate, mocha and fruitcake. The flavours somehow manage to develop and evolve into savoury spice and salted plum, just perfect to accompany with dark chocolate or fondant.

This wine is definitely a symbol of Penfolds’ history. It somehow manages to depict an interwoven dexterity of both time and wine making. It encapsulates the proud legacy of the past with the present hope of the winemakers.

Penfolds winery was established back in 1844 when Dr Christopher Rawson Penfold, a medical practitioner, and his wife purchased 500 acres of land which they called ‘Magill’. The house they built on the land still stands today and Penfolds is one of the most talked about names when it comes to wine.
