Hermès has released the Hermès HB-IV Continuum, a collection of haute bijoux. The pieces are full of graphic lines and significant amount of colour, something of a different take for the French house. Pierre Hardy, the Hermès jewellery designer for the past 15 years, described these pieces and “the continuation of a long journey”, this Haute Bijouterie jewels are his fourth for the house and the first in two years.

“When I look back to the last Haute Bijouterie presentation we had at 24 Faubourg Saint-Honoré, I realise the meaning of this collection in the global landscape of Hermès: the space dedicated to jewellery, the collaboration with the architect Didier Faustino, the level of technicality these pieces required, the rarity and the value of the jewels… all of these are signs of the evolution of the jewellery for the house.” said the designer on the evolution of his journey with the luxury brand.

Pieces like the Hermès’ Attelage Céleste pendant features a 32 carat pink opal and an imperial topaz set in warm yellow gold, colour is present and makes for a big part of the inspiration. “This year, the fact that I wanted to talk about the idea of the dynamics of time, the movement of time, the speed, the cycles, pushed me to explore all the different shades of the reflected light through the colours of the stones.”

HB-IV refers to the house’s fourth Haute Bijouterie collection, Hermès’ way of freshening up the line’s name whilst maintaining the traditional French name given to high jewellery.

“Joaillerie by definition starts with the stone. We chose bijou because everything starts with shape and design. It can be something very simple in silver, or it can be something exceptional where we source the stones and cut them to fit. There’s a stylistic continuum there.”
