Bringing Your Pastimes On Board with Superyacht Hobbies

Whether you’re a super yacht owner, or simply chartering a yacht for your holidays, you’ll know that yachting isn’t just a mode of transport; it’s a way of life. There are few feelings quite as fulfilling as that which you get while yachting out on the open sea, cut off from the cares of the world and the worries of the city, and there could be no better time or place to indulge in your hobbies and passions. Whether that involves practising a particular sport, getting creative, or catching up on your reading, doing what you love best while on the deck of a yacht really turns the experience up to eleven.

Here are some ideas of how you can bring your passion for sailing together with your favourite pastime.

Improve your swing on the sea

One of the latest crazes which is sweeping through the yachting world is turning your deck into a private driving range. If you have a passion for golf, you can get everything you need to set up a tee on your deck, and relax as your drive balls out into the sea. Thanks to some fantastic recent innovations, you no longer need to worry about the environmental impact of your hobby; companies are beginning to produce special golf balls made from biodegradable materials, which are even filled with fish food to ensure the denizens of the deep can appreciate your swing, too.

Stargazing

The open sea at night is a majestic place to be, no matter where you are in the world. However, in the southern waters around Australia, the night’s sky is amongst the darkest found anywhere on earth thanks to a total lack of light pollution and typically very little cloud cover. The result of this is an astronomical show which is truly breathtaking – glittering constellations, planets, meteors and more dazzle overhead. Take your appreciation of the night’s sky even further by investing in a mini observatory for your yacht’s deck; it’s an addictive, deeply rewarding way to pass the tranquil nights at sea.

Wild Adventures

The flora and fauna of the Australian coastline is famed worldwide for very good reason; it’s massively diverse, abundant and quite unlike anything else on earth. The deck of your yacht is the perfect platform from which to get closer to nature – you can approach unexplored beaches, coves and the edge of the rainforests which would be otherwise inaccessible, and which yield all kinds of stunning surprises. Use your yacht as a vantage point from which to take stunning wildlife photographs (all yachtsmen should invest in a top of the range camera and telescopic lens), or get closer to the deep by scuba diving or taking part in a spot of fishing.
