In case you are in Sydney and you have been living under a rock, here is the back story for you. Noma, the famous restaurant from Copenhagen has just opened a pop-up restaurant in Sydney after its successful pop-up in Tokyo last year. The restaurant will only stay open in Sydney for 10 weeks and needless to say, diners are already doing everything they can to reserve a table.
Noma Sydney opened on 26th January 2016 in a neighbourhood called Barangaroo, just a few miles away from the central business unit in Sydney. Run by the famous Danish Chef, René Redzepi, Noma is famous for its unique take on Scandinavian food and is touted as one of the world’s best restaurants.
People went crazy for a dinner reservation here. In fact, it was reported that there are about 27,000 diners on the waiting list. It was also reported that one of the diners has offered to give his house to the chef in exchange for a reservation. Tickets for this amazing restaurant were made available for booking last year and they sold out within 90 seconds.
The original Noma in Copenhagen has been continuously hailed by critics for its amazingly innovative approach to traditional Nordic food. It received two Michelin stars when it was reviewed back in 2008 and it has been crowned the coveted title of ‘Best Restaurant in the World’ by the Restaurant magazine four times.
Coming to Noma Sydney, it will be serving 5,600 diners over the period of 10 weeks. It has a space to serve 56 diners in one go. There will be 10-12 courses prepared and served by 75 staff members of Noma who have travelled all the way from Copenhagen.
If you were one of the lucky ones and you actually got a reservation at Noma then you will be shelling out $485 for your meal and extra $135 for alcohol pairings. All in all, there have been $2.7 million Australian dollars already paid upfront for the reservations.
We are not sure if you would be able to make it to Noma but, never say never right?
