The world-known brand Kérastase unveiled a brush like no other at tech event CES 2017 in Las Vegas, and was awarded the International CES Innovation Award. Named the Kérastase Hair Coach Powered by Withings.
“Technology is transforming consumers’ daily beauty routines, and smart devices have huge potential to impact how we care for our hair and skin,” Guive Balooch, global vice president of L’Oréal’s research and innovation technology incubator, said in a statement. “By using connected technologies to upgrade the hairbrush — something the average consumer uses every day — Withings and Kérastase have reinvented what a person’s relationship with their hair can look like and are showing how connected devices can revolutionise the beauty industry.”
This could be the it beauty gadget for beautygeeks and hair devotees of 2017 following the Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer. The Kérastase Hair Coach Powered By Withings offers a whole different kind of technological disruption. Withings, a France-based division of Nokia that’s behind some of the sleekest, smartest smartwatches available, teamed up with the L’Oréal Research and Innovation technology incubator to develop the smart brush, which comes with an app that collects data and along with intricate algorithms analyses your hair’s health and actually gives you advice, and that’s not all.
The smart brush comes with a tiny microphone that detects the sound of the brush tines, this detects frizziness, dryness, split ends and breakage. It has conductivity sensors which can tell whether the hair is wet or dry in order to offer a more accurate baseline reading within the app. Also, thanks to a accelerometer, a gyroscope and 3 axis load cells it can measure how forcefully you brush and capture the type of movement and make recommendations to correct bad habits.
The app scores hair breakage over time, gives consumers feedback on brushing habits and weather, and offers recommendations of Kérastase products and routines,” Balooch explains
Retailing for under $277, the battery-powered brush will be available mid-2017 at Kérastase hair salons, www.kerastase.com.au and through Withings’ online sales and distribution channels.
